Brunswick Shuffleboards

Manufacturing Location: Brunswick's Corporate location is in Illinois, but all its pool tables, game tables, and shuffleboard tables are manufactured through contract manufacturing, with the majority of factories and labor located in China. Vietnam or the Asia Pacific countries.

Environmental & Social Economic Impact:  The main ingredient needed for the best shuffleboard play surface is North American Hard Maple, which grows in the Eastern United States. Brunswick states that their playfield is made of North American Maple wood with a 1/4-inch polymer resin surface. So if the product is contract-manufactured in Asia, it means wood had to be transported thousands of miles across the other side of the planet. This is done to take advantage of low labor costs when manufacturing the finished product, which is distributed through a multi-tier marketing network. In other words, money is not put into the craftsmen who build the product or the raw materials. Instead, the money is used to develop a strong brand story, like the "Genuine American Brand," and you get marketing fluff like the one below... If you look inside a Brunswick table, you’ll see innovation after innovation. Every extra step we take in the building process ensures we achieve superior accuracy and consistency in our tables, so you can achieve the same in your game.

Where to purchase: The Brunswick Shuffleboard tables are sold through a dealer network that can include both small mom-and-pop retailers and large chain and eCommerce retailers like Amazon, Costco, Walmart, Pottery Barn, or Restoration Hardware. What ends up happening is that you have different middlemen who offer tables manufactured by contract manufacturers and marketed under the Brunswick Name. The cost is eventually passed on to the consumer. You can also purchase directly from Brunswick's website, but you'll often receive your table from a local distributor or reseller who carries the item you selected.

McClure Tables Shuffleboards

Manufacturing Location: The McClure Tables woodshop, where all cabinets, playboards, legs, and parts are made in-house, is located in Jenison, Michigan.

Environmental, Social, and Economic Impact: The main ingredient for the best shuffleboard playing surface is North American Hard Maple. We use hard maple in all our construction, not just for the play boards but also for the cabinets and legs. The wood is grown, harvested, and kiln-dried within 3 counties whose borders touch. Therefore, the environmental impact of transporting raw materials to the craftsmen who will build the product is minimal. The raw materials, labor, and other resources available to create shuffleboard tables are all in our woodshop; only finished products leave.
