At McClure Tables, the majority of our cabinets are built from solid hard maple — a premium hardwood known for its density, strength, and durability. Hard maple is the same species traditionally used for high-wear applications, including flooring, butcher blocks, and work surfaces.
Using solid hard maple throughout the cabinet increases weight, rigidity, and long-term stability. It is a material choice that prioritizes long-term durability over short-term cost savings.
Shuffleboard Playing Surface Finish
The finish applied to a shuffleboard playfield directly affects both gameplay and long-term serviceability. Advances in finishing systems now enable durable traditional coatings that preserve the wood's natural character while providing consistent speed and protection.
We offer a traditional multi-coat finishing system designed for long-term performance and backed by a lifetime warranty in residential use. For customers who prefer it — or when incorporating custom logos and graphic elements — we also offer a polymer-poured finish option.

Shuffleboard Glue Design
At McClure Tables, every playfield is built in our own Michigan workshop using solid, locally harvested hard maple. We glue and press our boards in-house on a state-of-the-art radio-frequency press, ensuring consistent bonding and stability.
Many shuffleboard manufacturers source playfield tops from external butcher-block suppliers. By controlling our own glue-up process, we maintain greater oversight over material selection, fabrication quality, and long-term performance.

Shuffleboard Cabinet Design
Shuffleboard cabinet design plays a critical role in overall structural support and long-term durability. The cabinet is responsible for supporting the playfield's weight — often several hundred pounds—while maintaining stability and proper alignment over time.
Some manufacturers utilize veneer, laminate, or composite core materials in cabinet construction. While laminated surfaces can offer durability in high-traffic commercial environments, they are often built over MDF or particleboard cores.
At McClure Tables, our cabinets are handcrafted from solid hardwood. We do not use veneer or laminated core construction in our cabinets. The internal deck — the structural surface supporting the playboard — is built from ¾-inch hardwood plywood rather than MDF.
Cabinet style and wood selection influence both appearance and cost. More intricate designs and premium hardwood options will increase material and labor costs, which are reflected in the overall price.
