Shuffleboard Table Comparison · Hudson Shuffleboard Tables VS McClure Tables

Hudson Shuffleboards: Uses a more industrial "factory-produced" approach and sells through various resellers and dealers. They are known for solid construction and a high level of customization, but may use select veneer for some cradle components, such as in the Grand Hudson model. Our records indicate that we can not trace the roots of Hudson Shuffleboard tables prior to 2008 to 2009. Prior to this, Will Hudson was a professional Baseball player. There is a key difference between McClure Tables and Hudson Shuffleboard, and it centers on the heart of any shuffleboard table, the playboard. We are not sure where Hudson's gets its playboards or what materials it uses. They claim that they are hard maple, but they do use the pour bar top epoxy finish.

At McClure Tables, we build and sell direct-to-consumer with no middlemen or distributors. We only use the best materials in every price range. Whether you buy a table for our entry-level price of $5,895 or spend up to $28,000, the cabinet, legs, and playboard are all still made from locally harvested Hard Maple.

For comparison purposes, we'll compare features on three McClure Models in the same price range as some Hudson Shuffleboard Models.

Hudson Shuffleboard Comparison Model 1

The Grand Hudson

Sizes: 9, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20 & 22-foot

Retail Price Range: $12,795 -$ 15,295

Sale Price Range $8,795- $10,495

Playboard: 20" wide, 3" thick, claims on the website that it's made of hard maple.

Playboard Finish: 1/4" polymer resin top

Cabinet Construction: Grand Hudson Cabinet maple veneer over a high-density fiberboard (HDF) for its main body, combined with solid wood legs and trim, but a premium "Deluxe" version offers a solid wood cradle (poplar/maple)

Suspicious Country of origin? Hudson has continued to claim that all their tables are made in the USA, but this model design looks exactly the same as when they first started importing it from China. Furthermore, the presence of ImportGenius records showing container-level shipments of 'game table components' from China suggests a 'Qualified' claim (e.g., 'Assembled in USA with Imported Parts') may be more accurate for certain models."

Customizations: You have several choices, including scoreboard options, neon glow-in-the-dark options on the playboard, and carpet colors.

Sizes: 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, and 22 feet

Price Range

Price Range: $9,285-$13,225

Sale Price McClure tables rarely offer sales. Discounting devalues the investment customers make and weakens the brand's long-term equity, which is built on perceived worth, not affordability.

Playboard Finish: Lifetime Warranty Traditional Piano Polyester Finish (10 times harder than polymer poured resins)

Cabinet Construction: All McClure Tables cabinets, legs, and parts are made from the same Hard Maple wood as the playboards.

Playboard: 20" wide, 3" thick, claims on the website that it's made of hard maple.

We want to clearly state that in this Hudson Shuffleboard Model comparison, we do not claim that all of Hudson's tables are imported; however, a significant amount of their product line is, and they are misleading, which we call into question their reputation. You can tell a lot about a company not by what they say but by what they do. Would you buy a shuffleboard table from a company that buys a top-name brand like McClure Tables, then redirects that traffic to their website? We are not going to put the link here, but if you know how to use a web browser and you type in exactly mccluretable.com, see where you end up, not on our website. This shows exactly what kind of character Will Hudson has.

Manufacturing and Location Strategy

  • Port Proximity: Being headquartered in Orange County, CA, provides a massive cost advantage for receiving ocean freight from Asia. This proximity minimizes drayage costs for heavy items like shuffleboard cradles or playfield blanks.
  • Value-Added Assembly: Hudson’s primary "Made in USA" claim rests on its finishing process. They operate a climate-controlled pouring room in California where they apply their proprietary polymer finish to playfields. Under FTC "Made in USA" guidelines, a product must be "all or virtually all" made in the U.S.; however, the industry often interprets "made" as "assembled and finished" when domestic labor is applied to imported furniture bases.
  • "Under the FTC’s 'All or Virtually All' standard, an unqualified 'Made in USA' claim requires that all significant parts and processing be of U.S. origin. The presence of ImportGenius records showing container-level shipments of 'game table components' from China suggests a 'Qualified' claim (e.g., 'Assembled in USA with Imported Parts') may be more accurate for certain models."
  • "Transparency in the marketplace is further complicated by digital marketing tactics. For instance, the domain mccluretable.com currently redirects users to the Hudson Shuffleboards website, a practice often cited in trademark and domain disputes as a way to divert traffic from competitors." We left that link there. They have done this for over a decade now. Would you trust anything a company with these business practices does? Note, we have some URL's similar to the Hudson URL. They are simply parked. We are not doing anything with them, and it would never be an ethical business practice.

McClure Tables are handcrafted in Michigan. We do not cut any corners. Our prices are lower across our line, whether you are looking at our in-stock models, wholesale direct, or custom-made. The difference is simply no middleman markup. If you are trying to compare apples to apples, ask a local dealer if they can have a shuffleboard table custom-made in a premium hardwood like Hard Rock Maple, American Cherry, Black walnut, or even exotic wood like Sapele or Mahogany. Some factory-made shuffleboard manufacturers can offer these options, but you will pay thousands extra for what is standard with our custom line of tables. Why not buy handcrafted products rather than factory-made ones, like California House Shuffleboard Tables?
